Our team of study abroad professionals
has extensive experience administering study abroad programs and
most of us were once study abroad students ourselves. Our various
talents and specializations enhance the delivery of our services. We
will draw upon our experience and wide resource base of contacts and
associates to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of your
program.
Ryan Lorenz
is
the Founder and Director of Academic Solutions. His international
experience includes study abroad as a student in London, a Peace
Corps post in Kenya, six years of directing a study abroad program
in Kenya, and twelve years of study abroad leadership in London.
Ryan has been an active
NAFSA member and presenter since 1995, EAIE member and presenter
since 2005 and has served as past chair of the
Association of
American Study Abroad Programmes/UK. Ryan has an MA in
International Education from the School for International Training
(Vermont) as well as an MA (with distinction) in International
Studies and Diplomacy from the University of London. This final
degree focused on conflict prevention and resolution, culminating in
published research on conflict in the former Yugoslav republic of
Macedonia.
Emily Nunes is the Program
Coordinator for Academic
Solutions in London and has experience with several study abroad
organizations in the US, UK, Italy and Canada. In addition to
ensuring the effective delivery of our programs, Emily also serves
as the Internship Coordinator for our many US partner universities
that require internship placements and supervision for their
students. Emily has a BA in Classical Civilizations from the
University of Rochester, New York.
Penny Schouten
is the Marketing Director for Academic Solutions programs worldwide,
based from her office in New York. She also develops and manages
relations with our wide network of US university partners in
addition to promoting our programs, services and facilities. Penny's
international experience includes many years as a recruitment co-ordinator
for the State University of New York, an MSc in e-business from the
University of Westminster in London and additional work, study and
life experience in the United Kingdom.
Kristina Ober
is a graduate student of Defense Studies at the Faculty of Social
Sciences of the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and has
coordinated the Security and Defense Program for undergraduate
students at the University. Kristina is the Program Coordinator for
our Conflict Management in the Balkans Program and responsible for
facilitating the expansion of our Conflict Studies Center in
Slovenia.
Dr. Bojko Bučar
is Head of the International Relations Division at the Faculty of
Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia with responsibility for post-graduate
international and diplomatic studies. His research is focused on
International Relations and International Law. Dr. Bučar is the
Academic Coordinator for our Conflict Management in the Balkans
Program.
Dr. Giovanni Ercolani is a specialist in International Terrorism, Security Studies, International Relations, Human Security, Conflicts, Peacekeeping and International Conflict Resolution, the Geopolitics of Energy, and Turkey and the Caucasus.
His professional experience extends to academia, defense, and multinational organizations. As a UNITARPOCI Research Associate Dr. Ercolani is responsible for teaching UNITAR seminars sponsored by Academic Solutions.
