Although historic, recent events led to the first European wars since 1945 and uncertainty about political settlements in the region continue to dominate the headlines, it is also a place of change and hope as many states in the Balkans have joined the European Union and several more will do so during the next decade.
Politics and economics are not the only areas of interest in the Balkans. Food, viniculture, and ancient ruins from Roman times continue to captivate the interest of both locals and foreigners. The mountains, forests and coasts delight visitors, and the lack of US study abroad students in the region ensures your students will have an authentic experience that will stay with them a lifetime.
